After a long break...

Pople will never know how guilty I feel for not writing reviews for a long time... Even though not many people read my blog and its amazing content. School has given me no mercy and I had tons of homework to do. Also, procrastinating has and always will be one of my favorite things to do while I do homework.
I've had read many books, believe it or not, just that I've not had enough time to write and post reviews. So, there is a review coming up soon (which I'll hopefully post today) and thank you for the people who are reading my reviews!!

Heart of the Huntress, A Camille Novel, Tess Oliver

Seventeen-year-old Camille Kennecott has finally found true happiness. Her twin sister, Emily, has returned home after years of self-inflicted seclusion within the austere confines of Bethlem Hospital. Nathaniel Strider, the boy who has captured Camille's heart, is with Camille whenever he is not living his dream as a sailor on the open sea. And her guardian, Dr. Bennett, jas graciously carved our a space in his scientific laboratory for Camille to spend her day experimenting with herbal remedies.

When Dr. Bennet receives a plea from a colleague to visit Transylvania and help deal with the werewolf problem, Camille is thrilled at the prospect of travelling to this exotic place. But the darkest form of treachery has boarded the ship with them, and it is not long before Camille faces the chilling possibility of losing everyone she's ever loved.

Tess Oliver is one of my favorite authors, and I think Heart of the Huntress is one of her best works... after Camille. Heart of the Huntress is a tad bit different from Camille because the setting changes and  there are more complicated characters and conflicts going on.

All of her books are self-published, and they are above and beyond the normal self-published ones. The writing was extremely good, and the story-line was quite interesting. I would've found it boring because the Camille series is about werewolves, but because there was mystery and action to balance it. 

Camille, the main character, seemed more mature than in the first book. She didn't 'giggle' over everything, and could handle difficult situations well. For example, when the boat sinks and she is washed ashore and meets a stranger, she doesn't panic, and calmly goes near civilization. She is a strong and likable character.

Two words for Nathaniel: he rocks. He doesn't betray Camille in any way. He is strong all along the book and never gives up easily. Somewhere in the book, he is blamed for attacking one of the passengers onboard and gets thrown into the 'jail', I suppose I'd call it. Camille keeps bringing him food and blankets, and that's the part where all the 'awww's come in. They are a sweet couple together. 

Heart of the Huntress is a great book for all ages, I really liked it. And, you never get bored with re-reading it. I've read the series over and over and it never gets boring. I really don't know what happened with the cover of this book, because it's not the best book cover for Heart of the Huntress. I mean, looking at the cover you'd think it was a paranormal romance set in the modern day, but it's a very clean book where women still wear big dresses and communication is by letters. Although the people on cover are wearing old-fashioned clothes, I feel like something is missing. Camille's book cover was great. It actually looked like the dress was from England in the eighteen century, and the girl in the cover I suppose it's Camille is really pretty... even though she's missing her white streak of hair.
But, overall one of the best books by Tess Oliver. Looking forward for the next book! 

Dante's Girl, The Paradise Diaries, Courtney Cole

I have spent every summer since I was then years old with my father in London. Every summer, since I was ten years old, has been uneventful and boring.

Until this year.

And this year, after a freak volcanic eruption strands me far from home, I have learned these things:

1. I can make do with one outfit for three days before I buy new clothes.

2. If I hear the phrase, "You're not in Kansas anymore, Toto," even one more time, I might become a homicidal maniac.

3. I am horribly and embarrassingly allergic to jellyfish.

4. I am in love with Dante Giliberti, who just happens to be the beautiful, sophisticated son of a Prime Minister of a Mediterranean paradise.

5. See numer four above. Because it brings with it a whole slew problems and I've learned something from every one of them.

Let's start with the fact that Dante's world is five light-years away from mine. He goes to black-tie functions and knows the Prime Minister of England on a first name basis. I was born and raise on a farm in Kansas and wear cut-off jeans paired with cowboy boots. See the difference? 

But hearts don't care about differences. Hearts want what they want. And mine just wants to be Dante's Girl.

My heart just might be crazy.

Ah, how I love Courtney Cole's writing style. I've read some of her books, for example, the first three books  of The Bloodstone Saga, and Princess... and I think this is my favorite Courtney Cole book. It's less serious than Princess, and has more witty comments and fun characters.

Reece is a very funny character. I wouldn't say strong, because she has some weak moments. She's definitely witty, and also down to earth. Good thing that the book is written in Reece's point of view-- it made it less boring, and believe me when I say she's hilarious. The only thing that I didn't like about her character was that she would cry real easy, but I still liked her.

Dante Giliberti is the son of the Prime Minister of Caberra, no surprise there. He's a sweet and funny guy and he is the perfect gentleman, never rushing things with Reece. I'd find myself aww-ing most of the time, because he was just so sweet to her! Dante is the sweet guy all along, not like other male characters who are cold and distant at first and then when they fall in love they are all sweet and lovely. Nope, not at all. Dante always tries to make his dad happy in every way possible, even though  I don't think it will be that hard because his dad is a very sweet man. 

I really liked the plot, it was the perfect summer read. Sad thing that summer is going to end soon... Ha! Who am I kidding? It already ended for some people. The ending, I definitely love the ending. Sweet and short. Happy and all smiles. Great, now I'll be feeling sorry for myself not having my very own Dante. 

I really enjoyed reading Dante's Girl, it's a short, funny book which will make you happy for the rest of the day!

Onyx, A Lux Novel, Jennifer L. Armentrout

Being connected to Daemon Black sucks...
Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon's determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I've sworn him off, even though he's running more hot than cold these days. But we've got bigger problems.
Something worse than the Arum has come to town...
The Department of Defense are here. If they ever find out what Daemon can do and that we're linked, I'm a goner. So is he. And there's this new boy in school who's got a secret of his own. He knows what's happened to me and he can help, but to do so, I have to lie to Daemon and stay away from him. Like that's possible. Against all common sense, I'm falling for Daemon. 
Hard.

But then everything changes...

I've seen someone who shouldn't be alive. And I have to tell Daemon, even though I know he's never going to stop searching until he gets the truth. What happened to his brother? Who betrayed him? And what does the DOD want from them-- from me?

No on is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies...

I was so happy when I found the book on Amazon at 3:00 a.m. when it was its release day! I wasn't sure if the book had came out yet, but I'm happy I checked. Onyx is one of those books you can't put down once you start reading it, which implies, I had a sleepless night. But it was worth it because Jennifer has done it again! 

In my opinion, Onyx is better than the first book in the series, Obsidian. It's packed with action, humor, sarcasm, loads of plot twists, and *sigh*, romance. The characters are tough and round, and we learn more about Daemon, the DOD and every single person who is related to alien bis-wax. 

First, let me start of with Daemon. Ahh!! He's such a heartthrob. We still see some of his jerk sides (but I'm not complaining); he is still sarcastic, humorous and sweet. In Onyx, we can see a softer sides of him as his feelings for Katy develop. He actually makes it a point to showcase his emotion. He gives a rose to Katy while they are at school, and gives her little things now and then, always taking care of her.. But he still pokes her with is pen. Cute! 

Here's a quick something to show you his awesomeness:
   "Cookie?" he offered, holding a cookie full of chocolate chips.
   Upset tummy or not, there was no way I could refuse that. "Sure."
   His lips tipped up one side and he leaned toward me, his mouth inches from mine. "Come and get it."
   Come and get...? Daemon placed half the cookie between those full, totally kissable lips.
   Oh, holy alien babies everywhere...

If I could only be Katy for one day, I'd die happy.

Katy is one strong, and tough girl, oh, and funny. She risks her life to safe her loved ones, but in the process she pushes more than one person away from her. I found it a tad bit annoying that she kept denying her feelings for Daemon, blaming it instead on their 'bizarre' connection. But never the less, she knows she has feelings for him. 

The new boy, Blake, is a not-so-subtle dude and makes a point in his first day to tell Katy he likes her. And what does Daemon do? He flips out, and oh, if I could only see that in real life. He makes the point  of him hating Blake every time he says his name. Sometimes he would call him Bobby or Bryon and other kinds of funny names. Blake has his own secrets which by the end of the novel is exposed by Katy. You go girl, Katy! 

Onyx is a book full with twists, and twists, and twists. And the ending? Ho, I'm not sure I can wait until    December when the third book comes out. I absolutely recommend this book, but I warn you, you'll have to cancel any plans you have for the days and be ready for a sleepless night! 

Wake, A Watersong Novel, Amanda Hocking

Suddenly, Gemma is stronger, faster and more beautiful than ever. But her new powers come with a terrifying price. And as she uncovers the truth, she's forced to choose between staying with those she loves-- or entering a new world brimming with dark hungers and unimaginable secrets.

First of all, I'm a HUGE fan of Amanda Hocking with capital letters. I've bought all of her books (including the numerous editions of the Trylle Trilogy), and loved every single one of them. I had high expectations for Wake, but it just didn't impress me as much as the other books. But, I still loved it, never the less!

The book isn't written in the first person, but we read the story in both Gemma's and Harper's point of view, which means double romance! 

What was great about this book is that the plot isn't the same old Vampire/ Werewolf/ Fallen Angel based story. I mean, everyone loves those kinds of books, but we need a tad bit of change now and then. Don't you think? This book is about Sirens, not mermaids, Sirens. Amanda Hocking has put some Greek mythology in it. And I loved it! There were several plot twists in the book, which I really enjoyed.

There are two love interests going on here: Gemma and Alex ( I cute couple, I'd say) and Harper and Daniel ( another cute couple). Alex is the shy boy who is funny and cute. He is 'supposed' to be Harper's best friend, but they have fallen appart over the years. Daniel is a boy who lives in a boat, and has made his frist impression on Harper very strong. The first time Harper saw Daniel, he was going to take a wee wee, and she accidentally saw his *cough* man parts *cough*, if you know what I mean. Both boys are likable, cute and funny, but I wouldn't write them down on the 'Heartthrob' category.The romance in this book is cute, nothing dark or heavy, which I think is a perfect summer read. 

A real bummer was that I couldn't connect with the characters much. What does that mean? Well, it means no butterfies in the stomach, and no I-want-to-punch-the-pillow-because-I-hate-that-character feelings. Most of Amanda Hocking's books were easy to connect with all characters, but obviously, it wasn't that great in Wake. Also, the character development was a real problem here. It seemed unlikely that Gemma was such a down-to-earth girl when she is, supposedly, the prettiest girl in the beach town. Harper, her older sister, took the mothering role. Uh, problem there. Harper is only two years older than Gemma. If Harper were to take the mothering role, she should;ve been a bit older than that. But, I understand she loves her sister and wants to take care of her.

Overall, I think Wake is a great book with an awesome plot which you'll enjoy reading now that it's summer time. Even though there were a few flaws (I remember one editing error where two words where written together, nothing big). I really enjoyed reading it-- it was entertaining, different. I'm totally looking forward for the next book in the Watersong series!

Bonjour to a new blog :)

I've always wanted to make a blog about books, but I guess I've never done it until now.. I read a lot, and I thank Amazon for that. I didn't like to read when I was a kid; I would check out books from my school library when it was my Library lesson, but I would never read it. Yup, I was that bad.Then, one day, my english teacher (Hey, Julie) told me that she wanted to buy the Amazon Kindle. I was all "Oooh... what's a Kindle?" She explained to me that it was an e-book where you could read thousands of books and download them instantly. Thank God I was interested. So, we went to the website to buy a white Kindle 3G/ keyboard, and by October 2012, I had my very first Kindle. And I loved it. I bought book, recommended books, and reviewed books tous les jours. Sometimes I would even buy three or four books in one day and read until four o'clock to finish a book. I remember getting grounded because I had bought too many books with my mom's credit card... the money I had spent on a month was about 245 dollars. But, hey, my English vocabulary improved!.. And I found out that the world is full with great authors and books. 

At any rate, I think this concludes my first post.
